Abstract

The work presented an age-structured deterministic model of a system of ordinary differential equations of diphtheria infection transmission dynamics. Optimal control theory was used to study the impact of personal protection, vaccination and treatment as effective control measures against the epidemics and established necessary conditions for the optimal control of the system.
