Abstract

In this paper, we established the basic reproductive number of the Nipah virus disease, the DFE and endemic equilibrium of the SIR disease model. We deploy the next generation matrix approach to obtain sufficient conditions under which the basic reproductive number was obtained. We then perform a sensitivity analysis of the model, which helped us come up with some proposed policies to assist stake holders on the right policies to apply. The study aimed at analyzing the sensitivity of the parameters in relations to the basic reproductive number of the proposed disease model; to achieve this we use the following objectives: (1) obtain the basic reproductive number of the model (2) perform sensitivity analysis of the model. From our analysis, some of the followings were drawn as conclusions. It was discovered that some parameters were found to be positively contributing to the spread of the disease, parameters like ^H, which is the recruitment parameter for the model, B1, this parameter is the effective contact rate, while some other parameters reduce the spread of the disease, parameters like
